We will have all of our ministry leaders set up around the gym on that morning. Everyone will have the opportunity to visit the tables set up for each of the ministries and get to know the leaders, ask questions, and see what those particular ministries look like. You will be able to sign up to serve as well as get to know other people at Catalyst even better.

If you are still not sure what area of ministry you are best suited for, don’t worry! As we wrap up the MAPS series, you will be able to identify your strengths and gifts and where they best fit in the church. Make sure you are all caught up on the MAPS series by watching the sermons here on our site as well as completing the MAPS resources here. These items are vital in helping you identify which area God has designed you to serve in!

To help get your wheels turning and give you some ideas of ways you will be able to jump in and serve, here is a short list of current and coming ministries at Catalyst Church:

• Children’s Ministry (nursery, toddlers, etc)
• Guest Services/Hospitality Team (information table, coffee, etc)
• Production Team (sound, video, lighting, multimedia, etc)
• Setup Team (stage setup, room setup, fabrication, etc)
• Greeting/Parking Team (lobby, parking lot, etc)
• …and many more ways!

We’ll have the coffee ready, so just show up a few minutes early to grab a cup, get your kids checked into our children’s program, and then celebrate our Savior Jesus’ birth with the Catalyst family!

However, I did come across a picture today that a friend posted on Facebook that sorta perked my interest in a very spiritual way and I thought I’d share my thoughts.

The caption of this photo read:

These people in this African village always wondered why so many people died in their village and had little or no understanding where they went. And then they killed this Crocodile. They claimed they never knew it even existed.

REALLY!!!!??? Are you kidding me. How does something that big and that obvious swim in the waters in or near the village that you bathe in, do your laundry in and most likely get your drinking water from and you NEVER knew it existed?

It sorta reminded me of how we sometimes view or see our sin. (OUCH….3 letter word we hate or don’t like to hear)

But if you think about it (and are honest with yourself) I think you might agree that sin is something we know is deadly, we know is lurking in our waters (where we live, work, play) and know can hurt us but really are unwilling to admit it’s REALLY THERE.

Maybe today it’s time to kill a crocodile in your life?

The cool thing is we have a WHOLE VILLAGE (called Catalyst) who is a community ready to help kill the croc in your life by getting on our knees alongside you and praying for you in your struggle. Because sometimes, it might just be a 50 foot croc you’re dealing with and you can’t tackle it alone.

Friends, that’s what community is and that’s what Catalyst is all about: carrying one another’s burden’s and helping one another kill off the crocodiles in our lives so that we can be more like Jesus.

Just my thoughts.

We are now officially entering the second year and second chapter of Catalyst Church. Fittingly enough, our new lead pastor will lead the charge in Morgantown. Brian Minnes and his Wife Kendra, along with their two daughters, arrive on Friday, November 2nd, and they’ll hit the ground running!

With a passionate group of people that are in love with Jesus, Catalyst Church can’t help but meet people where they’re at and love them for who they are. We’re all broken and hurting people in some way; it’s how we deal with it that makes a difference. We deal with it by giving it to Jesus and then loving others as He loves us. Catalyst Church is going to continue loving Morgantown in our second year, and every year after that!

We hope that you will partner Catalyst Church in one of a few ways. Our mission is to love people and point them to Jesus. If you’re in Morgantown, join us Sundays at 11am for worship and teaching (and some free Cafe Mojo coffee!) and get to know the people in your community. If you are keeping up with Catalyst from a distance, partner with us through prayer and a financial gift. Every little thing helps!

We are very blessed as a church to be able to do what we’re doing here in Morgantown. Pray for this next year as we continue to build momentum in the name of Jesus, love, and compassion. Pray for Brian and his family as they adjust to the city here, and for the leadership of Catalyst as we continue our mission.

Today we are officially announcing that we are excited to welcome Brian Minnes and his family to our team and family at Catalyst! With the leadership in the Virginia Evangelizing Fellowship (VEF) and our leadership at Catalyst in Morgantown, we’ve been busy for the last couple of months going through the process of searching for and hiring the right person to lead Catalyst Church into our next chapter.

We also want to thank Chris Ringler, our interim pastor during the transition. Chris truly has stepped up during this time and risen to the challenge. Not to mention he drives 3 1/2 hours each way Sunday morning just to teach at Catalyst! His heart, service, and time are highly appreciated and loved at Catalyst Church. We will be sad to not have him around Morgantown anymore.

Please pray over the next few weeks for Brian’s family during this time of transition in their lives. We look forward to getting them to Morgantown and welcoming them to Catalyst Church!

Catalyst Church has had some speedbumps along the way, but that’s to be expected with anything new. We’ve switched venues, tried out different setup strategies for our space, launched new small groups, hosted community breakfasts and cookouts, held an outdoor worship service on the river, and so much more. We made it through our first Christmas season and then our first Easter Sunday. To put it simply, we’ve learned a lot along the way! God has a way of showing you what you need when you need it. We’re so happy to have the family we have at Catalyst Church.

Looking back, we’ve seen some amazing things happen in Morgantown. We can’t wait to see what God does this next year! In the meantime, here are a years worth of pictures to look back on the last year.

To those that showed up to help, thank you. To those that prayed for the day from afar, thank you. And to those that came to share a meal, thank you. We had a blast hanging out and enjoying community!

While the summer might be winding down, that doesn’t mean our grilling time is finished. We’re doing another cookout immediately following the Sunday morning service on October 7th right outside at Wiles Hill Community Center. We hope you’ll join us!

It is completely free and open to the community, so bring as many people as you can round up from school and work! We want to meet new people, connect friends to one another, and just continue to build community with the people around us.

There will be tons of food, games for kids, a playground, and more. Help spread the word by joining the cookout on Facebook and sharing with your friends!  We’ll see you Saturday!
