Somebody to Love [new series]

I was driving with my 4 year old daughter the other day and a song came on the radio. I did not pay too much attention to it until she told me to turn the song up so she could hear it.  As I did I noticed that it was a song by the legendary (ah hum) recording artist, Selena Gomez. The song was titled “I Love You Like A Love Song”. I listened to it, with it’s repepitive lyrics and catchy chorus and it made me wonder: is this a good thing?

What I mean is, is it good to have that special someone love you like a love song? What do love songs describe about love? If you are physically attractive, then you are all around attractive? If you are nice to them and listen to them, then you are worthy of love? What about when work stinks or when they smell bad, are you not worthy of love then? What is he wants to watch Tim Tebow but she wants to watch House Hunters? Does that spell love?

Does this culture we live in really know what love is at all?

In the next few weeks at Catalyst we are going to go through the topic of whether any of us really deserve somebody to love, and if we do, how do we interact with them? What exactly should we look for in that certain someone? Is sex evil? Is sex awesome? What if I am single and ready to mingle but no one wants to mingle? What if I am divorced? Am I too young to even talk about love?

All of these thoughts and many more will be discussed at Catalyst, January 15th-29th when we see if we really can find ourselves Somebody To Love.
